FORM: REPORTED REQUESTS AND COMMANDS
Se usa para reportar lo que alguien dijo sobre eventos futuros, con o sin cambios en las expresiones de tiempo según el contexto temporal.
Oraciones principales
(op). At the airport they told him to come the next morning.
En el aeropuerto le dijeron que viniera la mañana siguiente.
Ejemplos
(1). The trainer was impressed and said that if I play next time as well as this time, I'll be the 'pointing guard' in the team.
El entrenador quedó impresionado y dijo que si juego la próxima vez tan bien como esta vez, seré el base del equipo.
(2). The letter said that he is coming home next month.
La carta decía que él viene a casa el próximo mes.
(3). Her husband told me that the following day they would return to Germany so that was the last time I saw Sara.
Su esposo me dijo que al día siguiente regresarían a Alemania, así que esa fue la última vez que vi a Sara.
(4). The weather forecast announced that it will rain tomorrow.
El pronóstico del tiempo anunció que lloverá mañana.
(5). She promised that she would call me the next week.
Ella prometió que me llamaría la semana siguiente.
(6). The doctor said that the results will be ready in two days.
El doctor dijo que los resultados estarán listos en dos días.
Estilo Indirecto con Tiempo Futuro
Uso General
Este punto gramatical se utiliza para reportar declaraciones sobre eventos futuros. A diferencia del español, el inglés ofrece más flexibilidad en cuanto a los cambios temporales (backshifts) en el estilo indirecto.
Estructura
Verbo introductor en pasado + that + oración con tiempo futuro
- She said that + future reference
- He told me that + future reference
Cambios Temporales (Backshifts)
Con cambio temporal:
- will → would: He said he would come tomorrow
- am/is/are going to → was/were going to: She said she was going to visit
Sin cambio temporal:
- Cuando la información sigue siendo válida: The letter said that he is coming next month
- Con hechos futuros establecidos: They announced that the train leaves at 9 AM
Expresiones de Tiempo
- tomorrow → the next day/the following day
- next week → the following week
- today → that day
- now → then/at that time
Diferencias con el Español
- Mayor flexibilidad: El inglés permite mantener tiempos originales si la información sigue vigente
- Uso de ‘would’: Equivale al condicional español en muchos casos
- Cambios obligatorios en expresiones temporales: Más sistemático que en español
