Uso de ‘Either … or’
Estructura Básica
La construcción ‘either … or’ es una conjunción coordinante correlativa que presenta dos alternativas mutuamente excluyentes. A nivel C1, se usa para combinar cláusulas y oraciones complejas.
Diferencias con el Español
- Inglés: either … or
- Español: o … o / ya sea … o / bien … o
En español, podemos usar simplemente ‘o’ dos veces, mientras que en inglés es obligatorio usar ‘either’ al inicio de la primera opción.
Características de Nivel C1
1. Cláusulas Complejas
A este nivel, ‘either … or’ conecta:
- Cláusulas subordinadas largas
- Oraciones con múltiples elementos
- Estructuras con información adicional (cláusulas relativas, participios, etc.)
2. Posición en la Oración
- Puede aparecer al inicio: Either we accept… or we reject…
- Dentro de la oración: We must either accept… or reject…
- Con punto y coma antes para separar opciones complejas
3. Concordancia Verbal
Con sujetos diferentes: el verbo concuerda con el sujeto más cercano:
- Either the manager or the employees are responsible
- Either the employees or the manager is responsible
