FORM/USE: VERBS OF SENSES + OBJECT + INFINITIVE
Estructura específica de verbos frasales donde el pronombre objeto se coloca obligatoriamente entre el verbo y la partícula. Se usa cuando el objeto directo es un pronombre personal (it, them, him, her, etc.).
Oraciones principales
(op). I went to check them out last week and here is my review of the two concerts.
Fui a verlos la semana pasada y aquí está mi reseña de los dos conciertos.
Ejemplos
(1). I tried to clean it up as much as possible.
Traté de limpiarlo tanto como fuera posible.
(2). We just need a small set and a little time to fix it up.
Solo necesitamos un equipo pequeño y un poco de tiempo para arreglarlo.
(3). The manager decided to call the meeting off, so we had to call it off immediately.
El gerente decidió cancelar la reunión, así que tuvimos que cancelarla inmediatamente.
(4). She picked up the documents and then picked them up from the printer.
Recogió los documentos y luego los recogió de la impresora.
(5). They brought up several important issues, but we couldn't sort them out in one meeting.

Estructura: Verbo + Pronombre + Partícula
Regla fundamental
Cuando el objeto directo de un verbo frasal separable es un pronombre personal (it, them, him, her, us, you, me), este pronombre debe colocarse entre el verbo principal y la partícula.
Patrón obligatorio:
- ✅ Correcto: check them out, clean it up, fix it up
- ❌ Incorrecto: check out them, clean up it, fix up it
Diferencias con el español
En español, los pronombres de objeto directo se colocan antes del verbo conjugado o después del infinitivo/gerundio como una sola palabra:
- “Los voy a ver” / “Voy a verlos”
- “Lo estoy limpiando” / “Estoy limpiándolo”
En inglés con phrasal verbs, el pronombre siempre va en el medio: “check them out”, “clean it up”.
Contraste con sustantivos
Con sustantivos, ambas posiciones son posibles:
- “Check out the band” = “Check the band out”
- “Clean up the room” = “Clean the room up”
Pero con pronombres, solo una posición es correcta:
- “Check them out” (única opción correcta)

Este punto gramatical requiere dominio avanzado porque:
- Implica conocer muchos phrasal verbs separables
- Requiere automatización de la colocación correcta del pronombre
- Es fundamental para la fluidez natural en inglés hablado y escrito
Phrasal verbs comunes con esta estructura:
- bring up → bring it/them up (mencionar, criar)
- call off → call it off (cancelar)
- figure out → figure it/them out (resolver, entender)
- pick up → pick it/them up (recoger)
- put off → put it off (posponer)
- sort out → sort it/them out (resolver, organizar)
- turn down → turn it/them down (rechazar, bajar volumen)
